  • 2-Day Core Training
  • On-site Consultation Visit
  • PlayworksU Digital Subscription to continue your learning

Two-Day Core Training
New schools attend a comprehensive, two-day core training centered on recess improvement, led by professional Playworks trainers.
Sessions are upbeat and fun, and balance activities, discussion, and planning.

Topics covered include:
  • Introduction to a Healthy Recess—learn the importance of recess and begin to define an ideal recess and the steps needed to get there.
  • Playground Games— learn popular recess games that teach conflict resolution, cooperation, and other critical social and emotional skills.
  • Group Management—explore key group management strategies which set students up for successful group behavior.
  • Recess Systems—gain invaluable information about playground planning and design, developing and maintaining a recess plan, and systems to maintain a healthy recess environment.
Consultation Visit
Following the training, our trainers conduct one in-depth, real-time observation of your recess and consult with your recess team to ensure successful implementation of the program. A comprehensive written report of the consultation complete with priority next steps is provided for your school’s leadership and recess team.
PlayworksU
Each participating school will receive a year-long subscription to PlayworksU, our online learning platform. Accessible 24/7, PlayworksU has bite-sized modules that help your team use effective, research-backed practices to help play support learning

Role of Team Recess Coordinator
Each recess team needs a leader—and that’s the Recess Coordinator. The Recess Coordinator will be the point of contact for the team and will continue in that leadership role at school to coordinate and implement what the team learns at the training and consultation visit.

The Playworks training team will be a resource and support for each recess team’s success on the playground. If you have questions, concerns, or are looking for ideas, your  trainer is more than happy to answer questions or troubleshoot challenges you may face.
